Dual Degree (IDD)
A vernal idea for offering a dual degree in Civil Engineering was conceived and introduced in year 2005-06 for those students who want to pursue their carrier in Research and Development. Subsequent to that, a five year dual degree program named, Integrated Dual Degree (IDD) is being offered by the Department. Previously, it was limited to Structural Engineering but from 2019-2010 session,. students can pursue IDD in Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulics Engineering and Transportation Engineering specializations as well. Admission to IDD program is offered through JEE (Advanced). Upon completion of the program, students would receive both a B.Tech. and an M.Tech. degree in Civil Engineering.
M.Tech
Department of Civil Engineering Conducts M.Tech Program in Structural Engineering, Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Geo-informatics and Geosciences Engineering. Admission to this program is offered to GATE qualified/sponsored candidate through departmental level screening test/counseling. In addition to their course studies, the students are offered big platform for their overall personality development through the participation in various extra-curricular activities of the institute.
Ph.D.
The department is actively involved in research in many areas of Civil Engineering. The focus of the PhD program is on research training with a high degree of specialization. The aim of such training is to make our PhD students very competent in their respective areas, so that they may be able to take up teaching or research-and- development work in future, Ph.D. students are also involved in teaching assistantship. This develops their teaching abilities. Admitted PhD students pursue his research in a specific area of research with a highly trained faculty member who is his/her PhD thesis supervisor.

The Civil Engineering Department was established in 1949 (then known as Civil and Municipal Engineering) in BENCO (Banaras Engineering College) which was a part of BHU. The formal sanction of the Visitor of the University to create this Dept. was received in 1956 and the B.Sc Engineering (Civil & Municipal) Degree was recognized by the Govt. of India in 1958. The department was rechristened to the present name in the year 1975. Presently, it caters its student with various Post Graduate courses like Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Structural Engineering, and Transportation Engineering. The department has taken up various research programmes apart from regular teachings and the research activities, namely CSIR, UGC, SAP, HUDCO, DST and AICTE. It has a created cooperation with industries to work for the various tasks given by Govt., Semi-Govt. and other Private organisations..
The environmental engineering laboratory has almost all state of art equipments such as Spectro photometer, Atomic absorption spectrometer, total carbon analyser, ...
Transportation engineering or transport engineering is the application of technology and scientific principles to the planning, functional design, operation
